Which is the best digital point and shoot camera to buy currently?

February 24th, 2010 | by admin |

Hi, I really need help to buy a digital camera asap. All the online reviews have only further confused me.My requirements are:
1. 7-8 megapixel
2. 3-4 optical zoom
3. LCD screen
4. Good night pictures
5. different shoot modes
6. video (optional)
7. sharp, bright pictures
8. anti shake
9. face detection
10. as compact a body as possible.
I used to have a fancy for sony cybershot models but am told they are not as good as canon or nikon. fuji has also been recommended. A salesman recommended either the fuji F40 or the nikon S500 or the canon IXUS950. Can anyone help please? I have a budget of up to $500 but don’t necessarily have to go all the way so long as I can get a good reliable compact camera that has all the latest features and gives me the best pictures.

I have a canon, and I love it! the only thing it doesn’t have on your list is the IS (anti shake), but there are models that have it. The canon A series is really good, but the ELPHs have a lot of cool features, and are compact. I spent a little over $300 and that included, a canon SD1000, an extra battery, a carrying case, and a ScanDick UltraII 2 GB memory card. Look into it…

    Check Website dpreview.com
for reviews of cameras and prices.
Consider my camera that has lots of zoom. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. Gives excellent 8X10 print. 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom, has image stabilizer, manual controls in addition to auto. Very good on AA rechargeable batteries and comes with battery charger.
Consider Fujifilm Finepix S700 7 megapixels, 10X optical zoom
    Less zoom:
Fujifilm FinePix E900 9 megapixels, 4X optical zoom
    Canon PowerShot A640 10 megapixels,4X
    Canon Power shot A630 8 megapixels, 4X
    Fuji F30

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
    Good Luck

    my suggestion
    go to yahoo shopping
    digital cameras
    digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

I agree with the F40. I have the F10 and really like it. If my F10 ever dies, I’ll get the F30 (don’t worry about why I don’t personally want the F40). As for #4 (good night pictures), that’s a skill that doesn’t come automatically with a new camera, but the F40 will certainly help.
