Jim is spot on with his comments. A 12mp point and shoot! do they make such a thing? Get a Nikon D40 and be done with it.

Not true. In fact, this insane race for more and more pixels – especially in point & shoot cameras! – has gotten downright stupid, AND counterproductive (because such huge MP numbers are creating new problems with noise and contrast.

It’s a marketing gimmick! Believe me, when decent quality and brand name P&S cameras got to about 8 MP (or even 6MP) they had pretty much reached their optimal quality/capability balance.

Crystal clear pictures are achieved by the photographer’s mastery of their equipment – and, of course, using cameras with quality lenses and adequately sophisticated and stable sensors.

My suggestions for 12mp digital cameras:

If you want a Point and Shoot, then get the Canon Powershot SD950IS.

If you want a DSLR, then get the Canon Rebel XSi.

Of these two, I think the XSi is best.

Question for you: Why do you want/need a 12mp camera? What do you plan on shooting? Are you planning on making really big prints?

my opinion is 12mp point and shoots should be 8mp so the little sensors they have dont generate as much noise

EDIT: for sharp images you need a sharp lens, so look at lens quality first, megapixels only matter if you wish to crop your images alot or do big prints.

dont get conned into more megapixels means better pictures….if the lens is soft you will just get more mega pixels of softness……
