Big Brother Coming to California’s Capital?

November 25th, 2009 | by admin |

Government surveillance seems to be on the rise everywhere and it’s no different where I live in Sacramento, California, which is why I’ve been trying to fight increased surveillance with little success as I show in this video.

The short clip I use in this video from the predictably positive Fox News story about the heavy government surveillance in Bill Gates’ hometown of Medina, Washington, comes from the Fox News program “Happening Now” broadcast on September 24, 2009, currently available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtCCpe0I7Ds

The two clips I use from my local CBS news affiliate’s coverage of the news conference from Jim Updegraff, Chair of my local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), come from the CBS13 story broadcast on September 28, 2009, available online at http://www.cbs13.com/video/?id=60948@kovr.dayport.com

The multiple clips I use of the September 29, 2009, meeting of the Sacramento City Council, including clips of Deputy Chief Sam Somers, the Rev. Ashiya Odeye, Cres Vellucci, me (Allen Asch), and Council Member Steve Cohn, come from Metro Cable and Metro Cable’s video of that entire meeting is available online at http://sacramento.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=8&clip_id=2100

I also use an image of webpage that includes several studies and reports showing surveillance cameras don’t reduce crime that is available online at http://www.youarebeingwatched.us/tools/4/#113

The “You Are Being Watched” logo I also use comes from the main page of that website at http://www.youarebeingwatched.us

And, finally, as always, you can find DOZENS and DOZENS more examples of Fox News bias on my Fox News bias playlist on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A3BD2524FE99BD4D

    Happy and …
Happy and fulfilled people don’t commit crimes. Why don’t they spend the money on improving the life conditions instead of tryng to “patch” crime years later? I think everybody would be better off. Cameras don’t solve anything. They only increase the control they have over us. That’s not freedom.

    “We’re willing to …
“We’re willing to give up some of our security for freedom”
“taking *free* money that will cost us all part of our civil liberties”

It seems that the cause of civil liberties is open for negotiation, and can be compromised for the right cause. Yet the language used would suggest otherwise, with an appeal for accountability, as well.
    Very nice.
I’ll hold you to that higher ideal, knowing that if you stray from it, you’ll be considered a hypocrite. That’s the accountability part.

    The amount of …
The amount of surveillance cameras has nothing to do with the amount of crime. I don’t get how people can seriously thing that having a camera makes someone turn into a “good guy”. Orwell knocking on our door and people keep going on with a smile on their face.

    I live in England …
I live in England and there are CCTV cameras almost everywhere. I have two problems with them,
One: you dont know who is watching.
Two: it does not seem to aide in solving crimes.
It may deter criminals but you can’t really argue that with figures so you never know to what extent, if at all, it has worked. It just makes me feel uneasy that I am being watched everywhere I go.. Not a good system imo.

    TheTalkingCricket, …
TheTalkingCricket, re-watch the video and you’ll see what he means. FOX is notoriously conservative and so are its viewers. LV is well-documented and well-sourced. If you’re into constitutional justice and the preservation of what the USA stands for at its core, you might want to subscribe to him.

    All this money …
All this money blown for “extra surveillance cameras” would be better suited for helping local homeless people, improving schools, helping the community, and so on. It’s sad how irrational our government can be.

    well if the camera …
well if the camera are put in place without first specifying their conditions for removal then the camera’s may never get removed even if they are less beneficial to people than other protection measures. and that is a bad thing.

Um. I do not believe that it does either but that is not what he is saying. He is speaking about the invasion of our privacy. Also about the wierd things the government is doing in the name of Public safety. Please don’t get me wrong I do respect your opinion. I just feel you should give LV a pat on the back for informing us of our rights.

Not saying that I’m for these cameras because I’m not. But you can’t state that this has anything to do with FOX news or conservitism.

look I agree with you fox news is discusting, and I’m against the 1984 society but

if I said peace and he actually said that “they were fighting for freedom” That’s even worse to say because the US never fights for freedom, they fight people who don’t obey the US,

And I can blame the troops all I want they have a obligation to disobey illigal orders but they did not, millions of people died because of the US aggression

You’re right. He should know by now that the war in Vietnam was immoral, so to bring it up as a badge of honor is BS. Some people are stupid enough to support the troops because “it’s the right thing to do”, heh. Even when it isn’t.
