Pro or amateur,this …
Pro or amateur, this camera is one of a workhorse I do a lot of concert photography and should something bad ever happen you can consider this camera as a throw away compared to some PRO cameras Nikon makes. By no means is this a camera worth loosing but better to spend under $700.00 for the body than shell out a few thou. And the quality is well worth the price.

Well it depends. …
Well it depends. The D80 has been out for some time now and at its launch, there weren’t very many high mega pixel DSLRs for under a thousand dollars. The D80 replaced the D70 as the entry level/amateur DSLR, except now you have the D40, D40x, and the D60. Those three cameras make the D80 a mid range camera, since entry level cameras are now really “entry level”. The D80 is well priced for what you get, and it’s more than enough for any non-professional photographer.

He’s babbled on …
He’s babbled on about the amount of pixcells and the amazing D-pad (or to quote him, “joy stick”) but he’s said NOTHING about the commander flash and the creative lighting system, the 3D coulour matrix metering, the 11 point focus system, the super bright vew finder, the noise reduction and image processing that Nikon have lifted from the D2 (Top model of the time), that it can shoot at 3 frames per second up to 100 frames….
…OH, and it comes with a strap =P
